Remember to take precautions when venturing out of your home. States around the country are currently experiencing an increase, believed to be resulting from Memorial Day, in coronavirus cases. And here are three other important things you should know: 1. Sharing the mic. Prominent white women are handing over the reins to their social media accounts this week to women of color to help amplify their voices. Famous individuals such as Brie Larson and Mandy Moore have paired up with black celebrities, activists and authors like Justina Omokhua and Jovian Zayne, using their platforms to speak to their immense audiences. Learn more about the initiative here. 2. NASCAR bans the Confederate flag. A day after Bubba Wallace, the only black driver on the circuit, called for the removal of the flag at future events, the higher ups at NASCAR went ahead and did it. The ban was announced before Wednesday night’s race at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, where Wallace drove Richard Petty Motorsports’ No. 43 Chevrolet with a #BlackLivesMatter paint scheme. Wallace, wearing an American flag mask, clapped his hands when asked about the decision before the start of the race. AP News 3. PayPal coming in big. PayPal announced that it was developing a fund for minority-owned businesses, investing over $500 million in it. The bulk of the money ... will be devoted to the creation of an economic opportunity fund that will invest in black and under-represented minority businesses and communities, the U.S. electronic payments firm said, according to an internal memo and company statement.
