Don't Plan On Going to NYC

It turns out New York has a must-quarantine list for travelers coming from out of state and Georgia is currently on it. Those coming in must quarantine for 14 days and are required to disclose to where they are staying. And here are three more important things you should know: 1. The great Twitter hack. Twitter users may have noticed there was a lack of  tweets yesterday from verified users. Turns out this was a security measure taken by Twitter after a large number of high-profile accounts were hacked in the name of cryptocurrency. While the scope of Wednesday’s Twitter hack is unprecedented on the social network, the kinds of scams the hacked accounts promoted are common. Scammers take over high-profile Twitter accounts using breached or leaked passwords and post messages that encourage users to post their cryptocurrency funds to a particular address under the guise that they’ll double their “investment.” In reality, it’s simple theft, but it’s a scam that works. The main blockchain address used on the scam site had already collected more than 12.5 bitcoin — some $116,000 in USD — and it’s going up by the minute. TechCrunch 2. Kroger and Walmart issue mask mandates. Earlier in the week, Walmart announced that all shoppers in their stores will be required to wear masks and Kroger followed suit a few days later. Expect these mandates to go into effect next week. Kroger will require its customers and its employees to wear masks, starting July 22, according to a company spokersperson. Walmart, one of the biggest retailers in the world, also announced it would require masks at its stores where there were no government mandates for masks in public. That requirement will begin July 20. Both retailers said the efforts would help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. AJC 3. Smoking versus a pandemic. Smoking is on a decline thanks to coronavirus - in London at least (maybe the trend is the same in the U.S.). Which is great because smokers fall into an at-risk group for Covid-19. More than one million people have given up smoking since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, a survey for charity Action on Smoking and Health (Ash) suggests. Of those who had quit in the previous four months, 41% said it was in direct response to coronavirus. Separately, University College London (UCL) found more people quit smoking in the year to June 2020 than in any year since its survey began in 2007. BBC
