Happy Hour Next Week!

Just a reminder that next week we will be having an in-office happy hour, Thursday at 4PM! Food and drinks will be provided. Swing by and get together with your fellow Springbots (especially those you haven't seen face-to-face in over a year). And here are three other things you should know: 1. Beware of Delta. Not the airline. The new variant of Covid that has been spreading in India and now has made its way worldwide. This variant is more transmissible than Covid 1.0, making those who are unvaccinated even more at risk for catching the virus. Where is Delta? In at least 60 countries, most notably in the UK, where it’s replaced Alpha as the dominant strain. British officials have warned that higher case numbers could delay a full reopening for businesses slated for June 21. Delta is also in the US, where it accounts for 6% of all cases. Yesterday, Dr. Fauci urged people to get vaccinated because “we don’t want to let happen in the United States what is happening currently in the UK.” Morning Brew 2. Another day, another hack. Gamers might want to do a sweep of their passwords. In the latest hack, Electronic Arts - producers of like every quality sports game in existence - saw only the theft of it's code. Hackers said they have taken the source code for FIFA 21, as well as code for its matchmaking server. The hackers also said they have obtained source code and tools for the Frostbite engine, which powers a number of EA games including Battlefield. Other stolen information includes proprietary EA frameworks and software development kits (SDKs), bundles of code that can make game development more streamlined. In all, the hackers say they have 780gb of data, and are advertising it for sale in various underground hacking forum posts viewed by Motherboard. Vice 3. Tupac and remote work have something in common. Both are involved with holograms. Apparently the new push in remote work life is hologram providers that will let co-workers work from home and appear in the office at the same time. Holograms are getting closer to becoming a workday reality. Think: hologram colleagues giving speeches at all-hands (already happened), and team meetings where you can see everyone's shoes. Do it for the gram ... Holo style. As tech companies move to hybrid WFH models, they're investing in holo-tech to fight Zoom fatigue blues. But holograms aren't just for employees — they're a bet on the future of remote communications. RH
